Naturals Street Theatre workshop

28th – 30th October 2010, 10am – 4pm daily: £50
The Jolly Sailor, Canterbury

Internationally renowned, Natural Theatre Company, led a three-day course exploring and practicing the art of street theatre. Participants looked in detail at Natural Theatre’s techniques and then devised their own performances which were presented on the streets of Canterbury on Saturday 30th October.

Natural Theatre Company, formed in 1970, produces original and inventive comedy theatre in a wide range of situations. The company is world-famous for both its indoor and outdoor comic-visual theatre, having played on all five continents in 66 countries. Natural Theatre is committed to creating enjoyable, unusual and accessible theatre. The performances are created from observations and responses to life – distilled into a humorous overview of the world, which seeks to engage, bemuse, intrigue and amuse audiences.

The course did not book well, despite following on from a very popular and successful workshop with the company in March 2010. Reasons suggested were the length of the course and the half-term dates. A number of last minute cancellations meant there were only three participants on the course.

Feedback included:
“The workshop was a very refreshing, fun and up-lifting experience. On top I didn’t expect it to be truly inspiring as well. I feel like trying new things in my own work and think that it will have a long lasting impact.
A new project was devised as a result of the workshop and we are thinking of collaborating among various companies. A sort of cooperative would be good to help us sell our various projects and help producing common projects. I hope Natural Theatre could maybe facilitate this and play a mentor role.”
