EVENT: September 5th, 2011
Development Awards and Call for Outdoor Work
212 (Two One Two) will be a county-wide programme of outdoor performance for Kent in 2012 involving artists, companies, communities and festivals.
212 will place performances:
• at village fetes and similar events
• with our partners, Fuse Festival (Medway) and Deal Festival
• at events related to London 2012 and the Olympic Torch journey
Applause / PANeK will match companies with communities, book shows into existing events and create a full performance schedule for 2012. These community events take place almost exclusively at weekends from May to September
We are looking for companies / artists with an established interest and track record of working outdoors and interactively who would like to be part of this programme. We are seeking work which is currently fully realised and available for touring in summer 2012. We are also able to support the development of new work for this programme.
The work needs to be:
• Self-sufficient – i.e. does not require technical or other support / involvement by the host organisation
• Can be accessed by audiences in a range of time frames (i.e. does not require the audience to arrive at a certain time and remain for a set amount of time)
• Explores innovative ways of engaging with audiences
• Has content appropriate to a village fete or local festival setting
If you have work which is suitable, fully realised and you are interested in performing in Kent in 2012, please send your promoters pack to cathy@panek.org.uk (or by post to PANeK, c/o Gulbenkian Theatre, University of Kent, Canterbury, CT2 7NB). A track record of successful presentation and reviews will be advantageous. We are interested in hearing from any artists / companies, regardless of where you are based.
If your work needs development please apply for the Development Awards. The first round of Development Awards is only open to Kent-based artists / companies. Subject to funding we anticipate another round of awards and a special commission – details to be released Autumn 2011 – which will be open to all artists/companies.
Development Awards (first round)
There is a budget of £12,000 available to support the development of up to four pieces of work. In addition to the cash, PANeK and Applause will:
• Provide mentoring and practical advice
• Book performance dates across Kent in Summer 2012 (numbers dependent on demand); each performance to be paid a (negotiable) fee (subject to satisfactory development of piece).
• Allocate the budget subject to the needs of the selected proposals
We will expect most of the development work to take place during October and November 2011 with a work-in-progress showing to a small invited audience in December 2011 or January 2012.
Interested companies should send a brief proposal outlining:
• Your background / track record
• A description of the piece proposed for this project and what elements you want to develop (e.g. you need to build a new piece of staging; you want to bring in someone to teach you specific skills; you want directorial or dramaturgical advice on the piece)
• An indication of how much money is required and what you will spend it on
Please send to Cathy Westbrook (Director, PANeK) either by email cathy@panek.org.uk or by post to PANeK, c/o The Gulbenkian Theatre, University of Kent, Canterbury, CT2 7NB by Friday 16th September 2011.
A short-list of applicants will be invited to discuss their proposals in detail with a small panel on Thursday 22nd September 2011.
Please feel free to contact Cathy Westbrook (cathy@panek.org.uk) if you would like to discuss the project and your work before applying. NB – the office is closed 12th – 30th August so you will only recieve a reply in early September.
Please read the Brief for full details:-
