Realise The Future took place on Friday 17th March 2006 at the Leas Cliff Hall in Folkestone. Over 200 people attended representing the fields of visual arts, literature and performing arts in Kent and beyond. Please see the timetable for the way the day progressed. Papers presented and other information from the day will be added to these pages over the coming weeks, so please keep returning – and email us if you have any comments.
Key questions which inspired the day were:
Arts-led regeneration has been a buzz-word in Kent for several years and the arts has increasingly come to be seen as a way of developing and sustaining vibrant and lively communities. How can Kent-based artists and performers contribute to these initiatives? How can their practises benefit from a political willingness to support cultural activity? What are the practical benefits to being based in Kent? How are major projects in Margate, Canterbury & Folkestone improving the arts infrastructure and sense of artistic community? How do we develop audiences for the future? How do we develop a synergy with regional and national initiatives?
